Lucky Rental Tool began operations in 2003, establishing our foundation in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 2009-2010, we expanded to Midland, Texas, to better serve the growing Permian Basin market. The real transformation came in 2017, when we shifted our focus to fishing operations.
Before 2017, we were known primarily as a reverse-unit company that happened to have some fishing tools. Then, we became genuine problem solvers. This shift positioned us as the specialists that operators call when they need complex fishing work done right the first time.
But the story of Lucky Rental Tool didn’t start with equipment. It began with a setback, a handshake, and a family legacy.
When founder Dwayne Taylor had the opportunity to buy a company and the deal fell through, he didn’t walk away. He built his own business instead. After finding success with Lucky Services, he saw a natural path to expand into tool rental and wellsite solutions. He pooled his resources, took the risk, and launched Lucky Rental Tool.
Dwayne grew up in the oilfield. His father worked on a drilling rig, and the work was in his blood from the start. Right out of high school, he took a job in a gas plant and later became a consultant for Conoco Phillips before striking out on his own. He didn’t have a ready-made path. Just the belief that if you roll up your sleeves and don’t quit, good things will happen.
Finding a bank that would back him wasn’t easy, but once he did, he hit the ground running and never looked back.
The name “Lucky” comes from Dwayne’s father’s nickname, earned during his service in the Korean War. When Dwayne was choosing the company’s name, his mother, Stella, reminded him that the business should honor the man who taught him the value of hard work and humility. That name has been on everything we do ever since.
From the beginning, Lucky Rental Tool has been guided by simple, unwavering values. Those values built this company, and they continue to define how we operate and how we serve the people who trust us on their wells.
Lucky Rental Tool grew by solving downhole fishing problems and doing right by the people who depend on us. One job at a time.
